Senator Brownsberger called the meeting of the Special Commission to Reduce the Recidivism of Sex Offenders to order. After introductions were made, Senator Brownsberger asked for a motion to approve the draft minutes from the meeting held on April 1, 2015. Dr. Knight made a motion, which Attorney Levy seconded. The motion was approved by all members present and voting.
The Sex Offender Registry Board, represented by Kevin Hayden, Acting Chair, Maria Piccillo, Board Member, Richard Mercurio, Operations Supervisor, Judy Norton, Victims’ Services Coordinator, and Tracey Downs, Board Member presented to the Commission about the authority and work of the Board. The presenters took questions from Commissioners and from members of the public in attendance.
The Commission reviewed its plan for upcoming meetings: May 28, 2015 from 9-11 am in the Matta Conference Room on the 11th Floor of One Ashburton Place for a presentation by the Committee for Public Counsel Services; and June 15, 2015 from 1-3 pm in the Charles River Room on the 10th Floor of One Ashburton Place for a presentation by the Probation Department. Senator Brownsberger suggested the Commission devote some time at one of its upcoming meetings to review what the Commission has learned to date.
